It’s been almost a week since I implemented Cal Newport’s lightweight GTD method for students that I detailed in my last week’s review. I really like it so far, as it adds a bit more structure to my routine and I don’t forget anything as long as capture all things that I need to know and put them down into my calendar so I don’t forget.
While it may be too early to tell of the effects of this tweak to my approach, it just “feels” better that I can anticipate and plan everything in advance, but still allows me the flexibility to reschedule things as life happens and I can keep things on track.
In any case, on to this week’s review!
Financial Freedom – I’ve taken on a few expenses that aren’t regular or expected such as my OUAC Part-time application, but not to worry as I’m sticking to plan in terms of sticking to cash, paying down my shit, and keeping my plastic at home 🙂
Fitness Phenomenon – I finished Murph in 1:01:14.. I was pretty friggin’ scared to even attempt it, but I went ahead and did it anyway! I’m glad I did as any workout shouldn’t be too tough. Even though I’m sore as hell in my quads, lats and arms, any workout going forward is nothing! Just have to try, find out and fight through the pain. I went to the gym 3 times this past week, so still in line with my minimum of 3 days of physical activity per week.
SEO/Career – Right now I’m in a bit of a rough patch and in need of a bit of direction as the stuff I need to learn and execute on is a bit harder than originally imagined. Understandably, everyone is busy as hell so I’m not getting that sort of attention or direction and there’s only so much I can do and learn on my own. I know my boss understands this and with a departure of a (short-lived) teammate of mine, I’m moving to my boss’ desk pod to stay closer and get help. What I need to be doing is putting in more hours after work immediately after my workout to stay on top of shit.
Adobe Illustrator – I put in two sessions in the mornings to keep my creative side firing. I even wrote a few more blog posts as a result! It’s been pretty interesting going through the motions of simply scheduling something in and actually doing the work during those alloted hours makes a world of a difference in terms of honing this skillset. I intend to create a “shitty infographic” by the end of this week!
